Ravana is worshipped among Gonds

Sir,
I belong to gond tribe. We (gonds) worship king Ravana, in fact we also have his temples. He was a great king, he was portrayed wrongly as they wanted to show Ram as a hero or something. And on the day of dassehera, people burn our king on every square of locality. We feel helpless as no one bothers about our sentiment.

They say Ravana was a cruel man, but then why he didn't touch Sita? Why did he wait for her consent? There are enormous examples. I can tell U that Ravana was a good person.

Sir, I respect you a lot as I m also a budding lawyer. I'll eagerly wait for your reply.

Thank you

  1. I concur what Chetan Sayam says. Ravan was one of the greatest king, scholar and pure man. He was handsome too. Let them celebrate his death. You can see how our country is run now on pointless debates and issues. There is no point in bringing back the debate on Ravana.

  2. Likewise, Keralites revere Mahabali, the asura king who was sent to patala by Vamana avatar. I see nothing wrong in people worshipping either Ravana or Mahabali or anyone else for that matter.
But then, the public discourse is usually shaped by only some particular viewpoints. Other contrasting viewpoints get sidelined.

  4. What worked in Satyug (Ram- Ravana Age) did not work in Dwaparyug (Krishna-Kans) age. And both these would not work these days. One should always follow the ideology and should not cmpromise with his principles and honesty.
